powerlessness
Three years ago I heard Mike Frost for the first time. In his address he outlined his own philosophy of Ministry to the YFC International body. We saw a DVD copy of the address. In it he talked about being powerless when sharing/showing the gosple. This means, to let the person with whom you are sharing experience God for themselves, even let them see how God uses you.
We adpoted his Proximity, Presence, Powerlessness, Proclimation philosophy and Carlo has illustrated it well in the story below. I have others that will follow, but for today, read Carlo’s story.
In Christ, Tim
In one of the flash rainfalls of the summer there was a family that lost everything. Perhaps you saw the wife interviewed on CHEX. Her son attends our Masterpiece Theatre that Raechelle leads here at The Bridge Youth Centre. In speaking with her husband I assessed their needs and planned on making an appeal for furniture items and things of the sort; but without a phone or regular contact I lost communication.
Last week Sharon Maskel called me from St. Alban’s church. Her Euchre club decided among themselves that they wanted to make a donation to KYFC, but furthermore they wanted to know if there were any furniture needs that we might have. Immediately I thought of the devastated family. The problem was that I didn’t know where they were or how to get a hold of them. …so I prayed.
THAT AFTERNOON the wife came to the art program (Freestyle) at the Bridge with her daughter. I learned where they are staying and how to contact them. Today I picked up cloths, a double bed, a dresser, and more. Their home is being rebuilt! Incredible!
But wait, there’s more. Sharon and her husband rallied children from their neighborhood to donate toys to the couple’s children. When I arrived today to pick up the furniture, there were 6 or 7 young boys and girls who gave their toys and helped load the trailer. Sharon had me share the story of how Christ connected us together to bless the family. The kids listened to the story with smiles of shy amazement. And so I asked the question, “…so do you think that Jesus is using you in His plan to help out this family?” The kids smiled even wider and looked at each other. “Well? What do you think?” I asked again. A mixture of shrugs and nods slowly emerged. “Let me tell you that the God of the universe just used you to help people out. That’s a good thing.” And with that I got in the van, waved good-bye and drove away.
